There were lots of dogs. Seemed like everyone had a dog. This was the cabana
owner's dog. Probably one of the (literally) hottest huskies in Costa Rica. Smart
dog though. That spot on the stairs picks up the most winds. Nothing like
finding just the right place to cool off. He's so chilled, he barely realizes
I'm there.
Surf really wasn't all that big most of the time we were there. It was somewhat big the
first and second day that we were there. But the massive tidal swings that could
vary to tens of feets were quite
severe enough to produce and take away surf. The on-shore winds would pick
up in the early afternoon, making surfing not so fun in the afternoons, and some of
the times there was no surf at all (as pictured below). We surfed
mainly in the mornings for as long as our hungry stomaches could take
and as much as our arms could paddle..and of course, before the winds picked up.
Wish I had some awesome surfing pictures of people to show, but no. Oh well.
Afternoons were spent lounging on the swaying hammock, reading a book,
dozing away with little cat-naps, watching iguanas
having iguana fiestas, taking a dip in the refreshing ocean,
cozying to the rhythmic walks along the beach.
Just chilling by ourselves or with our friends..
it was just all relaxing and taking a breather of life.
The beginning days of the trip, the weather was hot and somewhat dry. During
the mid of the week, clouds starting rolling in, winds starting howling, and
the rain started pouring. Actually, that part was really neat. It never really
rained severely during the waking hours. However, we had two nights of serious
thunder and lightning storms. I couldn't sleep since it was
still really hot, so I laid awake in bed and listened to all the sounds of the night.
The iguanas were having a slip and slide waterpark on the roof.
I could see the flashes of lightning through the multitude of windows
in the room. The reverberating boom of the thunder could be felt as the cabana trembled and shook
under its force. The ga-zillion pelts of water droplets simultaneously
rung through on every inch of the shingles of the roof. It was way cool.
My last morning in Avellanas, I needed to take one momento half-group picture.
(Didn't get a complete group picture with the other four people that were with us for the
first half of the time.) Every morning and night that we were there, we ate..and
drank..at the cabanas restaurant. The rice and beans, gallo pintos, for breakfast
were so flavorful, with a zestful Lizano sauce. Chugged away on rich roasted coffee
..just couldn't get enough. And the yummiest, thirst-quenching
orange juice....cold, with ice. Oh.. and couldn't resist.. the fresh baked
chocolate and apple cakes a la mode.
As much as I like taking pictures, I just wanted to enjoy the moments of being there.
Now that I'm back and I wish I had more pictures to show and reflect back on,
these pictures, the random few, still does a good job summing it up...
As always, here's to a great escape with warm waters, fun people, and the ferocious Big Daddy!
